Just outside of Venice, this small town has a lot to offer. It's not nearly as crowded as Venice and a twenty minute train ride will take you directly to Santa Lucia station on the island of Venice. Look for an apartment near the train station and you can easily get to Venice and back in a short time. Apartments are less expensive in Treviso and a train ticket is economical. The train runs frequently so it's easy to show up at the train station, purchase a ticket at a kiosk, and catch the next train.
Treviso is on the Sile River and there are also canals throughout the city. Be sure to check out the main square, Piazza di Signori, and walk along the Sile River.
We were able to find several good grocery stores. If you want to bring food back from the market in Venice, plan to take along an insulated bag for your purchases.
If you are so inclined, you can follow the sound of the church bells on a Sunday morning and attend a traditional church service or just wander and people watch.
