There's nothing better than getting away for a few days or a few weeks and taking time to relax and enjoy life. I've never been one for crowds of tourists, waiting in long lines, or keeping up with a rigid schedule. I'm a free spirit. I love having a highly flexible schedule, absorbing the local culture, seizing adventure, and keeping quality time spent with my husband and family a top priority.
I've been to Italy twice in the last year. I know it sounds crazy, but it's not. Most people think I spent huge amounts of money. I didn't. My husband and I did all the planning ourselves, hawked the internet for cut rate flights, rode trains, walked more, stayed in apartments and cooked nearly all of our own meals. We avoided crowds, ate amazing food, rested when we needed to and adventured as much as possible. That's what this blog is about. I'm not a travel agent, just an ordinary person telling you what worked for me.
Why Italy?
My dream vacation has always been a vacation in Italy. My grandfather was born in northern Italy. Northern Italy was still reeling from World War I when he when he left home and came to the United States. His dream was to make it rich in America and return to Italy to help his family. Sadly, that dream never came true. He died when he was 40 years old, long before I was born. There were no Italian relatives nearby. There was no community of Italian immigrants. My grandmother didn't speak Italian and all obvious ties with Italy were lost. Some ties are invisible, but no less strong. The food, the culture, and the beauty of Italy draw me. I'll see you again, soon, Italy.
Time to be still
Time to enjoy a meal
Time to share with the people around you
Time to explore, go on an adventure
Time to absorb history and culture
Time to rest
Time to be.
It's Still Italy
