You can tell that Italians love their dogs. Dogs are everywhere. You can see them when you are out walking, on the train, and in the stores. They are nearly all well behaved. Most walk nicely beside their owner and pay little attention to other dogs or people.
When I'm out walking with my dog here in Illinois complete strangers love to exclaim over her and stop to talk. My dog seems to be an open invitation for small talk and I enjoy the interactions that I have with people. In Italy dogs are out walking with their people so often that it just doesn't seem to be of any great significance. People and dogs go their own way, only stopping to talk if they meet a friend.
It would be great if I could take my dog all the places that Italians can take their dogs.

Many shops welcome dogs and often post signs in their front window to let you know. |
