Bloody Butcher Polenta Bowl

When you cook polenta, a thin skin forms on the pan.  This edible bowl is what formed on the pan I used to cook bloody butcher polenta.  It was the perfect size for a salad for two.  The deep red of the polenta, the pink radicchio and red onion made a beautiful and delicious salad.

More fun with learning Italian

Looking for more ideas to boost your language learning?  Here are more ideas for you.  I’m still learning Italian.  I think I always will be.  The more ways I can find to use the language the more I learn and retain what I already know.

Post sticky notes.
Having trouble remembering a word or phrase? Try writing it on a sticky note and putting it where you’ll see it often.

Write your own dictionary and phrase book.
I write myself notes on everything I want to be sure to remember.  Mostly this is for my own peace of mind.  If I have easy access to the words and phrases I’ll need then I have more confidence when it’s time to use them.  I use Google Keep on my smartphone.  Writing them down (or typing them in) is helpful in itself.

Talk to someone in Italian.
I think this is probably the best way to learn Italian, but I don’t have the good fortune of knowing someone who is fluent.  I do know one or two other people who are learning as well and I do speak Italian to them whenever I can.

Talk to your pet.
Pets are great listeners.  They don’t judge.  It’s also a lot of fun to go to the backdoor and call out, “Cagnolina!” and watch your dog run to greet you.

Text someone.
To do this, be sure to download a keyboard that “speaks” Italian.  If you don’t, spell check will be your biggest enemy.  I use Google Keyboard and set it for both English and Italian.  It detects which language I’m typing and offers appropriate suggestions and spelling corrections.
